CLUB MEETING 22nd FEBRUARY 2016
P.P. MARK McNAMARA welcomed members and guest speaker Anna Sergi.
Filling in for President Chris Sutton who is part of the team undertaking "Ride to Conference".

Message from Chris - Challenging but good fun. Personal Best today 125km. Need more women riders. Three days down 3 days to go.
 
CHAIR: P.P. GEOFF STEWART:
Thirty some years in Rotary, still enjoying Rotary and meeting people.
Bakery has won the award for "Best Hot Cross Buns" in Australia.
 
GUEST SPEAKER:

Anna Sergi

Anna's father Carlo Monichino migrated from Italy in 1949, with his trumpet. Played with Louis Armstrong on the ship voyage.
Carlo started cane cutting in Ingham Qld., moving to Shepparton in 1950's working on cannery run.
Met Margaret his future wife.
In 1962 moved to Katunga after purchasing a soldier settlement farm and planted his first vines.
In 1972 obtained a vintner license.
In 1988 Anna joined father after the death of her mother, taking over the cellar door - 7 days a week with 3 small children.
Took over accounting and found a good wholesale distributor with prestigious outlets in Melbourne.
Built new cellar door and catered for functions, after 24 years chef Francesca retired and a new chef employed offering lunches Wednesday to Sunday and functions.
Highlight of the business was "Opera in the Vineyard", which was well supported.
Anna involved in tourism development and promotion of district with the production of a "Farm Gate Trail", which the RACV Resort in Cobram and Lakeside Numurkah love.
10,000 visitors through cellar door each year.
27 varieties of grapes, with Chardonnay winning medals.
1/3 sales through cellar door, 1/3 local and 1/3 Melbourne.
With the dollar down, business looking good for next 4 years.

P.E. JOHN WATSON:
Orange juice machine debuted at Lions Market. An OK day.
 
P.P. JUNE HEWSON:
Widows of former Rotarians, Heather Thornton, Lorna Bourchier, Lorraine Milner, Nancy Graham, Jean Kilgour, Hilda McNamara, Hazel Boschetti, Claire West and Barbara Duncan have indicated attendance to next weeks special meeting.
Only 12 members have responded to the invitation sent out last Monday 15th, under Graham Hodge's name as chairman.
Please respond. This is a partners night, and formal dress night.
 
JACQUE PHILLIPS:
With John Watson attended the first session of Rotary Leadership Institute. Very interesting, learnt a lot about Rotary.
 
P.P. TERRY BRENNAN:
Reminder for sponsorship lists for Art Show to be finalised by Friday to enable list to be collated for the catalogue.
 
P.P. LOU HAMON:
Suzanna Sheed M.P. after accepting invitation to officially open the Art Show has now found she is unable due to parliamentary briefings.
Invitation now extended to Moira Shire Mayor, Cr. Gary Cleveland.
Craft entries are down, members urged to encourage craft artists to enter.
Art & Craft Committee meeting TUESDAY 1st March 7pm home of Ivan & Jenny Routley.
 
P.P. IVAN ROUTLEY:
On behalf of Geoff Holmes, who had to leave early to attend another meeting, the Bendigo Bank have requested assistance in providing a BBQ outside the bank on 18th March.
 
Experience learnt last Saturday that a whole lot of equipment is needed when the Orange Juice Machine is in use, from hand sanitizers, wash basins, paper towels, rubber gloves etc. etc.
 
4WD coming up, please advise if interested.
 
P.E. JOHN WATSON:
St Josephs Fun Run requires marshals from 8.30 to 10 on Sunday 6th March.
An invitation roster will be sent out.
 
P.P. KATE HODGE:
Entries slightly down for Art Show, 282 paintings and 26 photographic entries received.
 
P.P. TERRY BRENNAN:
Road signs for Art Show to be erected in coming days.
 
 
 
ATTENDANCE:
Sharyn Griffiths reported 23 in attendance with 4 make-ups and 6 apologies.

Linda Boyd advised that the only significant event this week was her own birthday on Sunday.
