CLUB MEETING 26th SEPTEMBER 2016
PRESIDENT JOHN WATSON welcomed members and guests: Guest Speaker Marie Lee and Linda Watson, Betty Seiter, Pam Brennan, June Mills, Leon Boyd, Jennifer Routley, Margo Hendy, Judy Newman, Margaret Canobie.

My Rotary:
Rotary and the United Nations.
Rotary's close ties with the United Nations date back to 1945 when 49 Rotarians helped draft the UN charter.  Rotary has an emphasis on building peace and goodwill in the world and the relationship with the United Nations is part of that ideal.

CHAIR: P.P. CHRIS SUTTON:
Dragged herself through the week at work after 19 days in Vietnam.
Great experience riding bicycles through the country, seeing amazing sights.

GUEST SPEAKER:

MARIE LEE

Member of the Victorian Quilters, which is the state patchwork & quilting Guild for Victoria, which has 600 members and 120 group members.
Very Suggly Quilts and Wrapped in Love Auxiliary are run by the Victorian Quilters. The program has two arms, one coordinating the making of the quilts and the other the distribution of the quilts via the Wrapped in Love Auxiliary.
The Wrapped in Love Auxiliary was formed in 2004, it is a unique and privileged Auxillary, not raising funds, but gifting a quilt to children with a life threatening illness.
All quilts received are registered with a number, the name of the maker and then the day it is distributed. Records are not kept of the details of the children who receive the quilt.
The label on the quilt reads:
"Very Snuggly Quilt.
The quilt has been made, with love, by a member of Victorian Quilters.
We hope you will enjoy sleeping under it or wrapping it around yourself when you need some extra warmth and comfort".
Since November 2013, the hospital is visited on the second Tuesday of the month, and the Auxiliary is privileged to have access to the wards, where they personaaly give the child or a family a quilt.
The quilts are a gift for the child to keep.
The day before the visit, each ward clerk is contacted and they give the gender and the age of the child that is a patient
With approximately 200 quilts given on the day, it is not possible for the child to choose a quilt.
Family and children are often surprised that quilters will spend considerable time making a quilt and give it to someone they do not know. The quilts bring joy to the recipients and also brighten their beds and become treasured family items.
Sine November 2013. the Auxiliary has given more than 6,000 children the gift of a quilt with an approximate value in excess of $1 million.
Each quilt is made with love and it our way of letting the child and their family know that, we the community, care and are thinking of them in this stressful time.

PAUL HARRIS FELLOWSHIP PRESENTATIONS.
President John assisted by Past President Chris Sutton acknowledged the work done for the Art & Craft Exhibition by the Craft Section Co-Ordinators. Jennifer Routley, Margaret Canobie and Pam Brennan by presenting them with Paul Harris Fellowships.
Since its inception in 1981 the Art & Craft Exhibition has raised over $232,000 for Rotary projects. The craft section has been an integral part of the exhibition since the beginning with the craft section coordinators being partners of Rotary club members. The initial coordinator was Heather Thornton for many years, followed by Dorothy Clark, followed by Jennifer Routley who was joined by Margaret Canobie and Pam Brennan to form a hard working team.
The craft section display has always been a highlight of the exhibition creating much local interest.

You looked a lot like my wife

A serious drunk walked into a bar and, after staring for some time at the only woman seated at the bar, walked over to her and kissed her. She jumped up and slapped him silly. He immediately apologized and explained, "I'm sorry. I thought you were my wife. You look exactly like her."

"Why you worthless, insufferable, wretched, no good drunk!" she screamed.

"Funny," he muttered, "you even sound exactly like her."
