CLUB MEETING 3rd OCTOBER 2016
PRESIDENT JOHN WATSON welcomed members and guests Judy Newman, Stuart Hodge, and David Menadue guest speaker.
  • RYLA applications close 31st October, consider prospective candidates.
  • District Conference Shepparton in March. Resolution session to consider any by-laws amendments.
  • Thankyou letters from Jennifer Routley and Margaret Canobie for recognition with a presentation of a Paul Harris Fellowship
MY ROTARY
RYLA - Rotary Youth Leadership Award is an experienced based conference consisting of 7 days and 6 nights. RYLA is for young adults ages 18-30 to further develop character and leadership skills and learn about Rotary. Empowering young people to lead!
 
CHAIR JENNIFER RODGER:
Born in Wunghnu, educated at Numurkah Primary and Numurkah Secondary College. Undertook receptionist course in Melbourne. In 1985 spent 12 months in England. Married in 1987, two children. Undertook business venture in Queensland, returning to Numurkah with children in 2001. In 2005 commenced work at Maurice McNamara & Co. as Property Manager.
 
GUEST SPEAKER:

David Menadue

Grew up in Wunghnu, attended Melbourne University to become a teacher, whilst at university became editor of university magazines.
Taught at Rochester then back to Melbourne "a place where you can be yourself".
Rewarding career in children's publishing.
In 1984 diagnosed with HIV.
Scared of rejection by family so distanced himself.
Born an optimist, tragedy into a triumph, positive about being positive.
Autobiography published in 2003.
AIDS stigmatised, took guts to cope, so easy to get depressed.
Family were supportive when taken into confidence.
Mother found solace with religious support groups.
Father accepted as "you are my son, that is all that matters"
Set up a peer support group. Government had foresight to see need to educate those at most risk.
Spoken to state and federal politicians and media.
In 1995 awarded an Order of Australia Medal.
Epidemic has been reduced to something manageable.

Service Projects Survey, 16 responses received. Many members indicated wish for a long term project involved with health, walking tracks, exercise stations, and social activities.
 
Foodbowl request for volunteers in traffic management, Orange Juice and car raffle ticket selling.
Club Runner volunteer sign-up list has been emailed to members, please indicate your support.
 
"Lift the Lid" mental health awareness promotion with NDHS providing support material with Rotary providing BBQ between 5 - 6. 12th October.
 
NDHS Maggie Beer Foundation Garden will be launched this Saturday at 10.30. Interactive garden.

P.P. CHRIS SUTTON:
Contacted Exchange Student Allen Ku to enquire if he got through cyclone in Taiwan. Got through OK, now at University studying accounting.
Rotary Friendship Exchange have obtained position on Queensland Exchange.
Attended Incoming A.G. training at Euroa to meet the team.

A car full of Irish nuns is sitting at a traffic light in downtown Dublin, when a bunch of rowdy drunks pull up alongside of them.
 
"Hey, show us yer tits, ya bloody penguins!" shouts one of the drunks.
Quite shocked, Mother Superior turns to Sister Mary Immaculate and says, "I don't think they know who we are; show them your cross."
...
Sister Mary Immaculate rolls down her window and shouts, "Piss off, ya fookin' little wankers, before I come over there and rip yer balls off!"

Sister Mary Immaculate then rolls up her window, looks back at Mother Superior, quite innocently, and asks, "Did that sound cross enough?
