COMBINED SERVICE CLUB MEETING

PRESIDENT CHRIS SUTTON welcomed members and guests to the annual Combined Service Club Dinner. Moira Shire Mayor Gary Cleveland, guest speakers John Watson, Ron Wilson and Jeff Buzza, Lions Club members and partners and representatives CFA, Senior Citizens, Combined Probus Club, Ladies Probus Club, Agricultural Society, Pals, Development Committee, Mens Shed, Cobram Rotary, Numurkah Leaders and D.G. Nominee Bernie Bott.
Apologies: Joan Barker, Allen Canobie, Peter Carter, Sharyn Griffiths, Steve Mills, Gary Phillips, Jacque Phillips, Phil Seager and Geoff Stewart.
 

REPORTS

Lion Peter Cox: Thanks for condolences received after family tragedy.
 
P.P. Kate Hodge: Sam Bailey Breakfast reminder for June 9th. Bookings at Community Learning Centre.
 
Jeff Buzza: Numurkah Secondary College mock interviews coming up and Fishing Club project to clean-up the creek is seeking support.
 
GUEST SPEAKERS:
 P.P. Ernest Jones from Development Committee introduced members of the community reference panel who together with community input and with consultant drew up strategic plan "Numurkah Economic Development Plan".
 
 
Ron Wilson:
Recommendations and needs highlighted by consultants.
Numurkah is a Moira Shire gateway town with links to Shepparton and Melbourne.
Goals: Realise economic and employment opportunities promoting Numurkah.
Priorities:
Land use availability.
Residential - immediate shortage.
Retail & Commercial: many premises outdated but new development taking place.
Industrial: major issue.
 
Jeff Buzza:
Growth Initiatives:
Economic.
Social & Community Infrastructure - youth facilities - footpaths - evens register.
Transport: major roadside service.
 
John Watson:
Amenities - update urban design - improve the visual amenity of the town centre.
Marketing & branding - attract future residents.
Challenge is to go forward with recommendations.
