CLUB MEETING 16th JANUARY 2017
PRESISENT JOHN WATSON welcomed members and guests, visiting Rotarian Barry Gale from R.C. Windsor and guest speaker Tom Brown and Grant Deppler.
  • Cycling group BBQ raised $100
  • Thank you to the Rotarians who assisted at Carols, raised approximately $600.
  • Yea Rotary Club Art Show 25th - 30th January.
  • Shepparton Conference 16th - 19th March, call out for registrations. Sportsman's Dinner 16th with "Joffa" as guest speaker.
  • Moira Shire Australia Day Awards 19th January Nathalia Community Centre. Club has two nominations, Event of the Year, Organisation of the Year.
INDUCTION OF GRANT DEPPLER.
Grant Deppler moved to Numurkah approximately 10 years ago from Gippsland.
Grant owns and operates his own Fire Protection Services business called Pozest Fire Systems and operates both in Victoria and New South Wales.
Grant is marries to Angela and they have one son Will.
He has been involved in the Rotary project Interplast, for which he raised funds and accompanied Turia Pitt on the Kokoda Track last year and is planning to participate in another Interplast fund raiser this year accompanying Turia Pitt to the Mount Everest Base Camp.
Grant and Angela are both well regarded in the community and have been involved in many community activities over the year.

CHAIRMAN: P.P. ALLEN CANOBIE
Busy last 12 months with "shack" in city nearing completion.
Chair of Combined Probus Club. Not a service club but a club of fun and fellowship for senior active retirees.

GUEST SPEAKER:

Tom Brown

Tom Brown is Environmental Sustainability Officer with Moira Shire.
Shire spends $1M each year on electricity and only 19% of houses in Moira Shire have solar panels.
Looking at ways to stimulate regional development of renewable energy.
Received grant for virtual renewable power station to feed into grid for Moira Shire use.
Concept of Solar Community Garden where MSC and homes without solar, instead of selling back to grid, share power generated. Moira Shire and community would be stakeholders with a community co-op to run.
Technically and legally feasible. Plan to be taken to Council, if supported will apply for government funding.
Need to gather enough momentum for community to participate in.
