CLUB MEETING 20th MARCH 2017
PRESIDENT JOHN WATSON welcomed members and guests Lissy Liebeskind short term exchange student and fellow exchange student  Melanie, Catherine Church and Pam Humphries from Numurkah District Health service. Angela & Wil Deppler and visiting Rotarian Jim Sampson.
  • St Josephs Fun Run well supported by community.
  • 16th October Kathy Booth and Patrick, caretaker at Umoja Orphanage will visit, with Numurkah hosting the night with Shepparton, Yarrawonga and Nathalia clubs invited
 
CHAIR: JULIE ANDREW:
On the farm preparing for sowing with dairy business "not too flash".
On family front Lachlan apprentice chef at a Yarrawonga restaurant and Shepparton Club, Alex in year 12, Charlotte year 6.
In an education role at G.V. Health supporting new staff.
 
GUEST SPEAKER:

Lissy Liebeskind

Lissy is a short term exchange student from Germany, speaking to the club with a powerpoint display on her background.
Lives in an idyllic little village Rodigsdorf population 250. First documented in 1136 and until 1990 shaped by agriculture.
Town surrounded by fields and meadows.
Church built before the Reformation and reconstructed in 1990.
Mother a carer for elderly, father a carpenter, grandma and aunt are neighbours.
Hobbies include horse riding, painting and singing.
Attends school at Apolda with 500-600 students. Commence at 8am with periods of 45 minutes for 5 - 9 hours finishing at 3pm.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Catherine Church and Pam Humphries

Catherine Church is the Education Coordinator at Numurkah District Health Service since 2014.
Coordinates the graduate nurse program, in 2015 1 graduate nurse, 2 in 2016, 3 in 2017.
Graduates rotate around the facility in six areas including Acute Care, two Aged Care facilities Pioneer Lodge and Karinya, District Nursing, Theatre.
Pam Humphries is one of the three graduate nurses in the 2017 program.
Lives in area and chose Numurkah being a fantastic hospital as offered six rotations whilst other hospitals offer only two rotations.
Rotations enable graduate nurses to choose future direction.
Enjoys aged-care and palliative care.
 
 
 

REPORTS

SECRETARY PHIL MEAGHER:
  • RSL requesting assistance with Gunfire Breakfast at 6.30am on Anzac Day.
  • RSL also requesting financial assistance for sound system for Anzac Day.
  • CFA seeking helpers for Good Friday Appeal.
  • Numurkah Secondary College for club to lay a wreath on Anzac Day.
P.P. LOU HAMON:
Congratulated club on another very successful Art & Craft Exhibition, thanking the committee for their work and the club members and Rotarians for their support throughout the weekend.
Yardstick for a successful exhibition is to sell 10% of exhibits, and selling 36 the show was very successful.
Thanks to those members who stepped up to take on roles, and already Gary and Steve are planning how to improve for next year.
 
STEVE MILLS:
Thanked members for support in raffle ticket sales. Members sold 740 tickets, street sales 753 (in spite of heat) and 438 at door with only 69 unsold.
 
JULIE ANDREW:
Wayne Limbrick is organising a fundraising raffle of a New Age Caravan with 15,000 tickets at $10 each.
Hopes $100,000 will be raised for the Umoja Orphanage in Kenya.
Kate, Julie & Steve have raffle books.
 
LINDA BOYD:
Ride to Conference was an exceptional experience. Organisation nothing short of fantastic. Every motel for overnight stops had a pool for recovery.
Catering phenomenal, had an amazing week, very social, raiding funds for Rotary Health.
Definitely going next year.
 
P.E. JACQUE PHILLIPS:
Numurkah Speed Networking on Wednesday 29th March. A free event from 5.30pm at Telegraph Hotel. Rotary to be represented to sell Rotary membership.
 
P.P. PHIL SEAGER:
  • Art Show post-mortem BBQ in Rotary Train Park on Sunday 26th at 6 for 6.30pm. BYO and discuss possible improvements to show.
  • 4WD Trip to Buckland River. 2 wheel drive track, day trippers welcome. Request members support with cake and slices.
LORRAINE GREENWOOD:
District Conference attended by 9 members. Interesting speakers. Attendance gives you a sense of something bigger Rotary offers.
 
P.P. CHRIS SUTTON:
On to Conference Yarrawonga next year.
Incoming DG will visit club on 24th July.
 
ATTENDANCE:
Bill Hewson reported 27 in attendance with 1 make-up and 3 apologies giving 70%
 
FELLOWSHIP:
Caroline McNamara birthday tomorrow, Grant Deppler birthday today. Terry Brennan new grandson.

A group of farmers all aged 40, were discussing where they should meet for lunch....

Finally it was agreed they would meet at the Royal Hotel in town because there was a particularly good looking waitress, which one of the single farmers in the group would like to ask out on a date.

Ten years later at 50, the friends were once again discussing where they should go for lunch.

Finally it was agreed the Royal Hotel in town as the waitresses were very attentive. The food and bar service was good and the beer selection was excellent.

Ten years later at 60, the friends were again discussing where they should meet for lunch.

Finally it was agreed the Royal Hotel in town because there was plenty of parking, they could dine in peace and quiet, with no loud music, and it was good value for money.

Ten years later at 70, the friends were discussing where they should meet for lunch.

Finally it was agreed they would meet at the Royal Hotel because the restaurant was wheelchair accessible and had a toilet for the disabled.

Ten years later at 80, the friends were discussing where they should meet for lunch.

Finally they agreed the Royal Hotel because they had never been there before.
