PRESIDENT JOHN WATSON welcomed members.

John advised members of disbursements made by the club for the year.

CHAIR: GARY PHILLIPS:
Busy at work writing pieces of fiction for parents in term reports, and planning for next semester.

GUEST SPEAKER: GARY PHILLIPS.

Gary gave a presentation on the digital area at work as a teacher at Notre Dam College.

In a "Show & Tell" Gary showed members how technology is becoming more sophisticated and cheaper  by showing devices such as Raspberry Pi are being used to introduce Year 7 & 8 to computing and coding.

In a power-point presentation Gary explained what is happening in computing in junior classes.

Computing helps with problem solving, critical thinking and creative thinking by using a micro computer such as Raspberry Pi in designing, making and testing.

To illustrate the changing times Gary concluded with a quote from the 1950's "Ballpoint pens will be the ruin of education in our country, Students use the devices and then throw them away."

A man enters a bar and orders a drink. The bar has a robot bartender.
The robot serves him a perfectly prepared cocktail, and then asks him, "What's your IQ?"
The man replies, "150", and the robot proceeds to make conversation about global warming factors, quantum physics and spirituality, biomimicry, environmental interconnectedness, and nano-technology.
The guy is very impressed and... thinks, "This is really cool.", and decides to test the robot.
He walks out of the bar, turns around, and comes back in for another drink.
Again, the robot serves him the perfectly prepared drink and asks him, "What's your IQ?"
"About a 100," the man responds.
Immediately the robot starts talking, but this time about football, the Bathurst 1000, cricket, supermodels, favourite fast foods, and the like.
Really impressed, the man leaves, then walks in again.
"What's your IQ?" the robot asks.
"Er, 50, I think."
And that’s when the robot responds, very, very slowly, "So, I expect you’re following Collingwood again this year?"
