CLUB MEETING 29th JANUARY 2018


PRESIDENT JACQUE PHILLIPS welcomed members and guests Kay Moodie and guest speakers Gary & Barbara Duke.

  • Australia Day BBQ a very successful function at a fabulous event.
  • Nathalia Rotary Club extend an invitation to visit the Heart to Heart House in Barmah followed by a meal at the Barmah Hotel on Wednesday 14th February.
  • Family Fun Day and Best Border Easter Egg Hunt 18th March Albury Botanical Gardens, with proceeds to Headspace.
  • Graham Hodge now in rehab at G.V. Health welcomes visitors.
  • Met with Kevin Morland of golf club, discussed dates during trial period.
 
 
CHAIR: A.G. CHRIS SUTTON:
As diversional therapist at Pioneer Lodge did a stint at Karinya prior to Christmas as well.
Introduced new game to residents who picked up game quickly.
Family update, trying to keep up with the kids.
As A.G. reported D.G. Bernie and membership director Steve McKewan will visit Nathalia for a membership workshop.
Reminder of District Conference.
 

GUEST SPEAKERS: GARY & BARB DUKE

 

Gary and Barb Duke combine their love of cycling, both locally and internationally with humanitarian work. Travel on a tandem bike with trailer.
Visited the highlands of New Guinea to assist with rebuilding of the hospital. Locals are easy going, lovely people but tribal system prevails. Gary found that dealing with them you had to be strong and firm.
Hospital staffed by doctors is the main training hospital for remote areas. Student doctors choose to come to make a difference.
Naracoorte Rotary Club financed installation of water tanks and visited and worked hard.
Gary & Barb looking to do something, to be a help over longer period without being burdensome to others.

REPORTS

 

P.P. JOHN WATSON:

Attending meeting to discuss Carols by Candlelight. Propose to offer Rotary support with BBQ and $500 financial support.

LINDA BOYD:

Children returned from Portsea Camp very excited. Club sponsored 3 children. Thank you letter from a grand parent.

P.P. LOU HAMON:

Reported on Art Show Committee meeting. Phil investigated banner over the Melville Street bridge, with committee accepting a quote.

Catalogue to remain same size and format.

Catering Gary reported sandwiches and slices will replace muffins. Rosters sent out.

Committee agreed to John's suggestion of Bev Williams and her pencil art students demonstrate during the exhibition.

Moira Arts & Culture Inc. presentation of Twelfth Night at Byramine Homestead on Sunday 4th February.

P.E. STEVE MILLS:

Art Show Raffle selling to commence this Thursday. Roster on club runner.

LORRAINE GREENWOOD:

Rotary Friendship Exchange update. Proposed trip to India cancelled but still exchanges to Romania and Long Island this year.

 Birthdays: Julie Andrew 31st, Terry Brennan 70th missed on December 8th, Lou Hamon 80th 30th January. Birthday cake supplied by Jacque and Gary Phillips with several renditions of Happy Birthday.
