CLUB MEETING 17th OCTOBER 2022

PRESIDENT REX SHIELDS welcomed members and guest speaker Fr. Jophin Joy.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT:

Show Us Your Wheels BBQ very busy requiring 17 trips to the supermarket to keep supplies up to demand. Fantastic effort with $2,898 taken with profit of $2,100.

CHAIR: P.P. JOHN WATSON:

Nineteen years as a director of Tassal with a possibility of a change in ownership next month with a Canadian family business taking over. Tassal has had a fantastic year, after 2 years of COVID, with huge demand from China.

GUEST SPEAKER: FR. JOPHIN JOY:

Fr. Jophin Joy parish priest in the Numurkah and Nathalia Catholic Parishes was guest speaker.

Fr. Jophin grew up in a middle-class farming family in India, farming 5 acres mixed crops, relying on physical labour due to hills.

At the age of 15 years began orientation at a seminary. Three years orientation, then three years Bachelor of Theology. Believed that he could help others by joining priesthood. After ordination first posting was to a Pilgrim Centre then 2011-15 assistant priest and from 2015-20 a parish priest.

Sought to go to Australia for pastoral ministry but had to wait 2 years before borders opened. Arriving in Melbourne with a fellow priest, taken to Bendigo then moved at Shepparton as assistant priest. Now parish priest for Numurkah and Nathalia Parishes.

Every day a new experience with language and culture. Well supported by parishioners in his new role

Challenges, with the grace of God, he can face.

TO END WITH A SMILE

A blonde and a brunette worked in a factory. The brunette says, "I know how to get some time off from work!" "How?" asks the blonde. "Watch this," says the brunette. She climbs up to the rafter and hangs upside down. The boss walks in, sees her and says, "What on earth are you doing?" "I'm a lightbulb," she answers. "I think you need some time off," says the boss so she jumps down and walks out. The blonde starts walking out, too. "Where are YOU going?" says the boss. The blonde replies, "I can't work in the dark!"
