CLUB MEETING 8th FEBRUARY 2021


PRESIDENT JENNIFER RODGER welcomed members and guests Garry McNamara, Rennie McDermott and guest speaker Jeff Blackley.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT:

  • Love Your Sister dinner 17th April. Meeting Wednesday to plan event.
  • Saturday BBQ in Newman Square raised $164.05.
  • Opportunity to screen "I Am Women"
  • Sponsorship Committee Art Show follow up on progress.

CHAIR: P.P. MARK McNAMARA.

Visited specialist, not required to visit for another 12 months. Injury will not improve, only get worse over time. 

Carolyn has had a knee replacement, both utilising the indoor pool.

Photography and history have kept him sane, posts giving pleasure to others.

 

GUEST SPEAKER: JEFF BLACKLEY.

President of the Numurkah Historical Society.

 

The Numurkah Historical Society has been part of the Numurkah Community since 1964.
The vision of the Historical Society is to be a vibrant welcoming organisation committee to preserve artefacts and records of the past for current and future generations.
Using a power point display Jeff showed artefacts and links to the past providing background stories.
  • Aim: To collect, store and/or display and use for research.
  • Society is a Public Records of Victoria Place of Deposits.
  • Record interviews with older members of the community provide insight into our past.
  • Window into History collate artefacts to share our history.
  • Share specific research information with public.
At the moment: stocktaking, digitising of the collection, labelling of display items, regular change of displays with more permanent displays in other rooms, permanent record of our servicemen, opening up of the breezeway to the public, setting up a railway pergola, opening up a tool shed.
How you can help: visit, spread the word, donate items, join the Society, helping with displays or cataloguing.
History is about people, locations and artefacts etc, used to tell the story of people and how they lived and interacted.

Update on recycling collections with stamps, bread tags, bottle caps being passed on.

 

P.P. LOU HAMON:

On behalf of Australia Day Committee thank you to the Rotary Club members for their assistance. With extra funding made available it is hopeful the committee can make donations the Rotary, Lions and Town Band.

Submitted a "Support Ticket" to Club Runner re delivery problems with the bulletin. In the meantime please check Junk Mail.

TO END WITH A SMILE

My 35-year-old son and I had just finished our meal when I realized I’d left my wallet in my truck. As I headed out the door, I told the waitress what had happened. “But don’t worry,” I said with a grin. “I’m leaving my son for collateral.” She looked at him. He winked at her. She turned back to me. “What else you got?”
