CLUB MEETING 11th APRIL 2022


PAST PRESIDENT LORRAINE GREENWOOD welcomed members.

  • No meeting next two week, Easter Monday and ANZAC Day holidays.
  • District Assembly in the past was a one day session with key-note speaker in the morning and break our group sessions in the afternoon. With COVID the format changed to be online. This year format combined one day session with guest speakers followed during the month with Zoom sessions.

CHAIR: JULIE ANDREW:

Spoke on her work at GV Health. With staff shortages, 50 positions for new graduate nurses available.

Stage 1 of re-development proceeding with completion of theatres, going from 4 to 7, and women's and children's precinct.

Starting to sow on the farm.

GUEST SPEAKER: SHEREE AMBROSINI.

 

Appearing via ZOOM. Sheree Ambosini, a nurse for 30 years, with advanced clinical studies in neurology appointed G.V. Health Movement Disorder Service nurse.

First time in rural health such a position created in association with G.V. Health, Parkinson's Victoria and Shepparton Parkinson's Support Group.

Dr Parkinson a G.P. in London 204 years ago outlined motor symptoms, pain and mood and other parts of body. Took 150 years before medication became available and has come a long way since.

Parkinson's is the second most common neurogenerative disorders in the world, often going undiagnosed for many years. Still no cure, but research being conducted around the world.

A chronic progressive neurological disease, with the brain not producing dopamine. 80,000 living with Parkinson's in Australia, commonly over 65 years, effecting men 2 to 1 with women.

No known cause, a trigger in the brain, pulled by environment (pesticides), accident, major trauma or genetic.

 

STEPHEN MILLS told of his journey with Parkinson's. Diagnosed 3 years ago, but should have been diagnosed 3 to 6 years earlier. Movement monitored by wearing a watch with information sent to Dr Bhattacharya who adjusts medication accordingly.

  • Resignation of Greg Moralee accepted by board.
  • Following a letter from Lorraine Greenwood and Sieg Seiter the $14,710.51 held in the Koala Fund has been donated to the Koala Foundation.
  • Good Friday Children's Hospital Appeal required volunteers to assist CFA, from 9am at fire station.
  • Open Garden Project after several years being cancelled is scheduled for October but requires a coordinator.
  • Wayne Schwass, former AFL player "Pucka Up" mental health project a possibility for a "Business Breakfast".
  • District advise they have received a record number of applicants for Youth Exchange

Barometer now displayed in Bendigo Bank window.
 
P.P. TERRY BRENNAN:
Show Us Your Wheels to be a different format, held in main street in October.
 
P.P. STEPHEN MILLS:
On behalf of the Historical Society mentioned "Numurkah History" a talk, walk, bus ride day tour, Sunday 1st May 9.45am - 5pm. Cost $50 includes lunch at Glenlossit.

RSL Shot Gun BBQ volunteers required at 5.30am at RSL Hall.
