CLUB MEETING 4th JULY 2022


PRESIDENT REX SHIELDS:

President Rex Shields welcomed members & guest speakers Stacey & Michael from Deadly Art, Ross Hardham introduced Vic & Gayle Holland, Judy McDonald introduced grandchildren Nate & Jess.

Saturday’s BBQ raised approximately $200. Thanks to Geoff & Marie Austin, Judy McDonald, Steve Mills & special thanks to Garry McNamara for being in charge of the BBQ trailer.

Nathalia’s Rotary club changeover was attended by 8 members of our club. Meals were great & the evening was very entertaining.

Next week we have our new DG David McPherson attending, it is to be a partner’s night with Chris Sutton as Chair. There will be discussion on possible change to the District Assembly & AG Lorraine Greenwood will also speak on that next week.

NCN Health have sent us an email requesting support letters to be sent to Ministers to support funding a new Pioneer Lodge Facility to be erected. Introduction of Julie Andrew as Chair.

 

CHAIR: JULIE ANDREW:
Recently turned 50. July is a focus on health issues. Dry July improves lives for those living with cancer; National Diabetes Week reflects on 1.1 million people living with diabetes with awareness & prevention; National World Awareness week for those in chronic pain. World Hepatitis Day at the end of July & Donate life week for organ/tissue donation.
 
GUEST SPEAKER: STACEY & MICHAEL.
 

Guest Speakers – Stacey & Michael operate Deadly Art which displays & sells indigenous artefacts, didgeridoos & art works from local artists including their own. They first opened in March in Meiklejohn Street but have recently moved to Melville Street.
Stacey spoke of her Pop, Cecil Clayton who served in the Australian Army as a Soldier & was a Rat of Tobruk. After he returned from war 9 of his 13 children were taken.
Michael demonstrated an Emu Caller to imitate the mating calls from emus, a whacking stick, digging stick & a Yorta/Yorta walking stick which can be become a weapon. The indigenous motto is “what you take from the land you must use” – no wastage.
An invitation was extended to Michael & Tracey to join next year’s Art Show to display their works.
Michael attempted the digeridoo.

 

REPORTS

SECRETARY JENNIFER RODGER:

Thank you letter received from Lou Hamon for his Paul Harris Sapphire Pin;

Meeting scheduled with co-ordinator of Breakfast Club to organise additional volunteers;

Invitation to Lions Ladies High Tea on Sunday 07/08/22 @ 1.30pm @ Town Hall $15 admission. RSVP 20/07.

P.P. STEPHEN MILLS:

Steve Mills – Treasurer, the $5 that is collected weekly from members is crucial in assisting to keep our membership costs down.

SALLY ROSE:

Suggested a follow up system for any members who don’t turn up to a meeting & haven’t put in an apology, to check that they are okay.

 Sergeant Session – Linda Boyd. Very entertaining first sergeant session where she managed to fine almost every member.
