CLUB MEETING 16th JANUARY 2023

Meeting opened: 6:30pm

President Rex welcomed members & guests Wilma Crowther, Rennie McDermott & Louise Hall. We will need volunteers to assist with the BBQ breakfast for Australia Day. Condolences to Linda Boyd on the recent passing of her Mother.

Lorraine Greenwood AG – is Chair on 06/02 & she would like to have a “scatter week” with members visiting different clubs to attend their meetings to see how they operate, where they meet & tell other Clubs what we are doing. A schedule of various clubs meetings to be circulated during our dinner break.

Chair – Jennifer Rodger. Work busy as always. Marriage Celebrancy business going well with 3 weddings completed & 4 more booked in. Introduction of Louise Hall as Guest Speaker. Louise grew up in Numurkah & returned in 2019 with her 4 children. Louise is a full time teacher @ St Joseph’s Primary School & SMOTA.

Guest Speaker – Louise Hall. In 2019 her daughter Charlotte was diagnosed with Lebrunes Syndrome which is a genetic disorder that was first discovered in 1995. Charlotte was only 9 at the time. They were living in Townsville but decided to relocate back home to Numurkah for family support. Lebrunes Syndrome is a bit like Parkinsons, & Charlotte has tremors on her left side. The disease often causes cysts to develop & blow up which need to be surgically removed. Trial treatment is currently being undertaken with Zebra fish in the UK. There is limited funding for treatment as the condition is so rare. A family trip to the Gold Coast is scheduled in March thanks to Make A Wish. Charlotte is about to commence secondary school with SMOTA & they have been putting down flat ground in places for her plus grab rails & a support worker to assist her where necessary. Charlotte is living her life, having fun & her favourite thing is talking to people so if anyone spots Louise & Charlotte down the street, please stop to say hello.

Secretary’s Report – Jennifer Rodger. Invitation from Numurkah & District Historical Society to attend a meeting on 08/02/2022 @ 6.00pm @ Senior’s Hub Knox Street for a preliminary meeting on how the 150th anniversary of Numurkah & Wunghnu should be acknowledged in 2025; Email for inaugural of the Victorian Rotary Youth Challenge Sailing Program for 15-18 year olds if anyone knows a child who may be interested; Email from Ann Kimberley as Chair for RFE. Committee trying to arrange an exchange with D2400 in Sweden. The Swedes hope to come in May to attend the Rotary International Convention & participants would then visit Sweden in September, if anyone is interested.

Kate Hodge – Has organised a de brief session on Thursday night 6.00pm @ Shamrock to exchange ideas on what worked & what could be improved upon for the Open Garden Weekend.

Jacque Phillips – Bus Project. Bendigo Bank account has been closed with totals including funds that were still in Rotary Accounts making a total of $139,536.40 which is an incredible achievement. First bus was ordered some time ago but still waiting on a build date as yet. Delivery likely to be at least 6 months away. 2nd bus was ordered in October but they are trying to source an alternative make such as a Renault, Mercedes or Ford.

Chris Sutton – As District Secretary she has received an invitation from Nathalia Rotary Club to support their 60th anniversary which is to be held on 15/04 @ Nathalia Recreation Reserve. 2 course dinner @ $35/head. RSVP by 12/04. Ride to Conference “Deni Dash” is coming together.

Lorraine Greenwood – She assisted Nathalia Rotary Club with their New Years Eve spinning wheel raffle along with Sally Rose, Garry McNamara & Chris Sutton. Lorraine is looking for some volunteers to assist her with catering for the Victorian Kayaking Sprint Championships  to be held in Nagambie on 28th & 29th January. Funds raising with assist her granddaughter getting to Perth for the upcoming National Kayaking Championships.

Heads & Tails – Winner Garry McNamara

TO END WITH A SMILE

Don’t knock the weather. If it didn’t change once in a while, nine tenths of the people couldn’t start a conversation.
