CLUB MEETING 3rd DECEMBER 2018


PRESIDENT STEPHEN MILLS welcomed members and guests Jade & Janine Connolly, Amie Hodge.

APOLOGIES:

Attendance for the month of November 72%. Year to Date 68.69%

PRESIDENT'S REPORT:

  • Inspirational Story: Numurkah Fire Brigade.
  • Visit to Padman Stops very successful $397 raised from each club for Foundation "Giving Tuesday"
  • Thanks to caterers for an excellent meal.
  • Golf Club Pro-Am Tournament next Thursday with 200 competitors. Rotary to cater starting at 6.30 for breakfast. Need volunteers for 11am to 2pm shift.
  • Show Us Your Wheels successful with over 600 entries. O.J. Stall and raffle ticket sellers did well.
  • RL! 3 attended by Steve Mills and Sally Rose
  • Off-site meetings raise money with catering by club. Meal and drinks at Christmas Meeting will be paid for from these funds.
  • Cutlery purchased and picnic plates purchased for catering at off-site meetings.
  • Christmas Meeting next week at Chris & Ross Hardham's 1090 Spences Road Katunga. Bring a chair. This is a partners night.
  • No meeting January 28th - Australia Day holiday.

GUEST SPEAKER: JADE CONNOLLY:

Jade Connolly currently studying for a degree in Veterinary Science attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), a 7 day experienced based conference for young adults aged 18-30 to further develop character and leadership skills, empowering young people to lead.
RYLA aims to:
  • Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth;
  • Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders;
  • Encourage leadership of youth by youth;
  • Recognise publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities.

Every RYLA program covers the following core topics:[1]

  • Fundamentals of leadership
  • Ethics of positive leadership
  • Importance of communication skills in effective leadership
  • Problem-solving and conflict management
  • Rotary's purpose and service to the community
  • Building self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Elements of community and global citizenship
Leaders are persons who guides or directs not dictates. Learnt to be part of the solution not part of the problem in teamwork.
Discovered self by portraying positive emotions,. Must believe in yourself.
Jade concluded by screening a short video of the conference.
 
LINDA BOYD & PETER CLARK:
Linda and Peter reported on the "Pals Panthers" participation in the Tri-State Games in Adelaide.
Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia compete in games with 35-40 teams and over 300 athletes.
Pals Panthers came 2nd in athletics, 2nd in swimming and 3rd overall.
Thanks was expressed to the Rotary Club for providing sponsorship.

SECRETARY JENNIFER RODGER:

Letter from NDHS seeking financial support for their project which was not successful in  "Pick My Project" Cargocycle triobike taxi.

Email proposed legislation changes.

Invitation to attend meeting in Blighty on 5th February.

 

P.P. LOU HAMON:

Advised the club at the Art & Craft Committee AGM the following were the elected office-bearers.

JULIE ANDREW:

Umoja Orphanage second house nearing completion, requires extra funding to finish. Money raised at Bunnings BBQ will go towards the house.

Orange Juice stall at Show Us Your Wheels raised $297.

 

SALLY ROSE:

Attended RLI 3 dealing with leadership and teamwork. Strongly recommend all to attend.

 

P.P. SIEG SEITER:

Sieg spoke on the origins of Heads & Tails.

 

P.E. LORRAINE GREENWOOD:

Attended President Elect training.

Recommend the Club Runner app available for mobile phones.

Letter from Numurkah Secondary College requesting garden supervision during school holidays.

 

CHRIS HARDHAM:

19 booked for Portsea Camp to be held 19-25 January.

 

REX SHIELDS:

 

With Ross Hardham attended the Bendigo Bank presentation in Nathalia where the bank gave donations from $10,000 to $500 to community groups. Bendigo Bank passionate about giving to the community.

Rotary grant will be used to upgrade the street stall kiosk in Melville Street.

 

JUDY NEWMAN:

175 tickets sold at Show Us Your Wheels. Roster circulated for the final weeks of selling.

 

A.G. CHRIS SUTTON:

Suggested Kris Kringle at Christmas Meeting be donations of tea/coffee/breakfast cereals for the "Need to Feed" campaign for drought stricken farmers.

 

CHRISTMAS MEETING:

Chris Hardham reported on the Christmas Meeting to be held at 1090 Spences Road Katunga.

Proceed along G.V. Highway from Numurkah, turn left into Spences Road and after 2 km on right. Will have balloons indicating.

Bring a chair. This is a partners night, with members notifying whether they are supplying nibbles, salad or dessert. The meal and drinks will be free.

Yesterday, scientists in the United States revealed that beer contains small traces of female hormones.

To prove their theory, they fed one hundred men twelve pints of beer and observed that 100% of them started talking nonsense and couldn't drive.
