CLUB MEETING 18th JUNE 2018


PRESIDENT JACQUE PHILLIPS welcomed members and guests, guest speaker Emma Knapp, Duncan McPherson, Chris Matthews, Jennifer Routley, Fiona Seager, Margaret Canobie. Plus 11 members from Terry Brennan's family who joined the meeting for the presentation.

P.E. STEPHEN MILLS, community service director announced the recipient for the Col McPherson Community Award for 2018 as Terry Brennan.

Terry has been in Rotary for 43 years, fulfilling most positions in the club, and is a Paul Harris Fellow. Active in the community with the Historical Society, Numurkah Bowling Club, G.V. Motor Vehicle Drivers Club.

Any thing Terry puts his hand to he commits fully and achieves what he set out to do. Terry is often that person behind the scenes ensuring the club or committee he is involved in is ticking along smoothly. Terry is a great communicator and has a gentle nature. Pam has been an incredible support to Terry and has been involved in many community groups and is also honoured as a Paul Harris Fellow.

GUEST SPEAKER: EMMA KNAPP - Community Development Worker Dairy Industry Support with Numurkah District Health Service.

Appointed in January 2018 to Numurkah District Health Service as a Community Development Worker Dairy Industry Support. 

Aim is to build resilience in dairy industry.

Talked to community members and the dairy community. Dairy farmers indicating the need to catch up with one another.

Awareness Raising:

  • Dairy Industry Service
  • Raise awareness of local services
  • Provide information about community events
  • Devise a community list of community members
  • Share support services information on local social media pages.
Social Connection Activities:
  • Dairy industry BBQ lunch
  • Women in Farming Morning Tea
  • Men's Health Nigh.
Aim to improve awareness of importance of health and remove stigma of mental health. Men's Health Night well supported with nearly 200 in attendance, reaching the community. Guest Speaker Heath Black had a profound impact as he talked about AFL culture and how he tackled his depression.

P.E. STEPHEN MILLS:

Thank you to Rotarians who assisted Men's Health Night.

Ron Baker Clearing Sale BBQ raised $500 with all food sold.

 

GRANT DEPPLER:

Catholic Parish church house needs help to make it into a community house for young people to learn life skills.

Promoting an evening at Parklake on 20th July. Julia Cross will speak on dealing with an autistic child.

 

JEFF BUZZA:

Approach from NDHS to show district to medical students next week.

 

LORRAINE GREENWOOD:

As a RLI facilitator advised district is considering workshops on Applying for Grants.

Seeking RYLA candidates from 18 - 30 years, optimum 24 - 26 to attend leadership course.

Youth Exchange - club to host a short term exchange student for 6 weeks in July. Marine is a 15 year old student from France. Seeking host families.
