Justin Sullivan

Justin Sullivan was guest speaker at 19th September meeting of the club.

Justin is Director Aged Care and Support Services Manager at Numurkah District Health Service.

Born in Merrigum, attended Melbourne University at 18 to do a science course, then changed courses for nursing.

Living in Kyabram and for last 3 years was NDHS Project Officer for re-building program.

Justin began his talk by introducing one of his great loves HUG - Help Us Grow.

A not for profit organisation with focus on establishing partnerships between two different cultures.

Raising money and awareness for people of Uganda.

Firstly built a community centre then medical centre and finally a secondary and vocational college.

RAWCS have assisted by processing donations.

 

Aged Care in Australia - 7.8% of population aged 65 and over, or 270,559 people were in residential aged care in the 2013-14 financial year.

Home care: 2.4% or 83,481 receive home care.

$14.8 billion spent by Australian Government of Aged Care Services.

Growth of aged Residential Aged Care increasing by 3.5%

One out of two facilities have more than 60 residents.

67% require high-level care to manage behaviour, with 47% for activities of daily living.

To enter Aged Care a person has to be assessed by Aged Care Assessment Team.

Assessment provide recommendations on need and wishes of person.

Basic daily fee of $48.20 per day.

User pay system based on ability to pay 85% of aged care pension.

Means tested care fee an additional contribution based on income and assets.

Paid as a refundable accommodation deposit paid into a trust fund.

Justin concluded by thanking the Rotary club for supporting the Music & Memory Program, a powerful tool for all residents but particularly those with dementia.
