Family history of the Hamon’s
 
Father Louis Ambrose Hamon born in Auckland in 1903, obtained pharmacy degree in Auckland. Moved to Australia for experience, married in 1927 to Gertie Johnson, had a family of 4, Shirley, Beverley, Linda with Lou being the youngest. Family moved to Numurkah in 1933 opened a pharmacy beginning a life devoted to the church, community and roses.
 
Lou joined the pharmacy business in 1960. His father served 2 terms as a councillor totalling 15 years and was Shire President two successive years. First President of the Chamber of Commerce formed in 1936 and many other positions throughout the community plus a Justice of the Peace and a deputy coroner. Joined freemasons and delivered over 200 speeches. Roses became a big part of his life with 250 roses and travelled internationally to judge roses. Rose Gardens named Louis Hamon Gardens upon his retirement from council. In 1983 his father was awarded OAM died in 2001 aged 98. Gertie Johnson born in 1903, 1 of 11 children. Johnson Park in Northcote & streets named after all his children in Northcote. Mother assisted in development of CWA, involved in bowls and cards. Died 1993 aged 90.
 
Lou born in 1938 only son. Shirley became a pharmacist, Beverley a Chiropodist aged 92, Linda became a bookkeeper died aged 38 as a result of a car accident. Lou was educated at Numurkah Primary, Higher Elementary and then a border at Wesley College. Wanted to be a train driver when he was a child, became a pharmacist and worked in London for 9 months & travelled for 3 months and experienced going through Checkpoint Charlie.
 
In 1956 Lou joined Scott Association and was Regional Commissioner for Northern Region until 1997. Awarded The Silver Cross and the Bar to the Silver Cross for distinguished service.
 
From 1968 Lou joined Numurkah Singers and produced shows until 1996. Fiddler on the Roof was the most memorable show. He served as president from 1988 – 1996 and awarded Ted Malloy Award for outstanding contribution to Musical Theatre in the Goulburn Valley. Numurkah Singers introduced annual awards in 2010 “the Louis Awards”.
 
Among other community service groups joined Rotary in 1987, serving as President 1999 – 2000. Awarded Paul Harris Fellowship in 2007 and the Sapphire Paul Harris Fellowship pin in 2022. Chairman of the Art & Craft Exhibition for 28 years and produced the club bulletin for 12 years.
 
Loves travel, ballet and theatre and is humbled by the many awards he has received.
