Member of the Victorian Quilters, which is the state patchwork & quilting Guild for Victoria, which has 600 members and 120 group members.
Very Snuggly Quilts and Wrapped in Love Auxiliary are run by the Victorian Quilters. The program has two arms, one coordinating the making of the quilts and the other the distribution of the quilts via the Wrapped in Love Auxiliary.
The Wrapped in Love Auxiliary was formed in 2004, it is a unique and privileged Auxillary, not raising funds, but gifting a quilt to children with a life threatening illness.
All quilts received are registered with a number, the name of the maker and then the day it is distributed. Records are not kept of the details of the children who receive the quilt.
The label on the quilt reads:
"Very Snuggly Quilt.
The quilt has been made, with love, by a member of Victorian Quilters.
We hope you will enjoy sleeping under it or wrapping it around yourself when you need some extra warmth and comfort".
Since November 2013, the hospital is visited on the second Tuesday of the month, and the Auxiliary is privileged to have access to the wards, where they personaaly give the child or a family a quilt.
The quilts are a gift for the child to keep.
The day before the visit, each ward clerk is contacted and they give the gender and the age of the child that is a patient
With approximately 200 quilts given on the day, it is not possible for the child to choose a quilt.
Family and children are often surprised that quilters will spend considerable time making a quilt and give it to someone they do not know. The quilts bring joy to the recipients and also brighten their beds and become treasured family items.
Sine November 2013. the Auxiliary has given more than 6,000 children the gift of a quilt with an approximate value in excess of $1 million.
Each quilt is made with love and it our way of letting the child and their family know that, we the community, care and are thinking of them in this stressful time.
